La Troisième publication

This week I worked on a few things for my Genius Hour Blog. First off, I have been spinning Reggae albums in my living room. Playing all kinds of international Reggae grooves. I downloaded a new German reggae album by Gentleman and put that into the rotation on my i-phone. Also downloaded the latest Tiken Jah Fakoly album and have been listening to that this week. I began writing short bits of narration for the Reggae artists that I would like to profile. Jotted down some important points and am making small paragraphs which I would like to record as voiceover. I have read up on the following seven artists and I think that these are the ones that have made the final cut to appear in the short film: Alborosie (🇮🇹 ) , Alpha Blondy (🇨🇮 ), The Emeterians (🇪🇸 ), Fat Freddy’s Drop (🇳🇿), Gentleman (🇩🇪 ), Macka B (🇬🇧 ) and Tiken Jah Fakoly (🇨🇮 ). Perhaps I shall have to further pare down my selection, but at the moment, these are the artists that I am going to profile. I have created a couple of folders such as Photos, Music Videos, Live Footage and Interviews and have begun to scour YouTube, artist websites, Google Images, Reggae websites, news sources, and various other sites to create a database of clips/images which I would like to use in the short film. I have several hours of clips at the moment, but the important part is to keep them separated into their proper categories and to have everything alphabetized so as to be able to access everything quickly. This week I am also learning how to import YouTube videos into the Final Cut Pro X editing software. I have watched a few Final Cut instructional videos on YouTube and have created another folder into which I am placing the links for these videos for future reference. I am trying to use only instructional videos from 2020/2021 so that the information that I am getting is current and applies to the latest version of Final Cut. I hope to give the ‘capture’ process of importing a YouTube clip into Final Cut a few attempts tomorrow. Once I master this, then I can create what are called ‘bins’, essentially folders within Final Cut into which you place all of your raw footage or clips. This is the basis from what I will begin to start the editing process from. The frustrating part about all of this is that it is a rather large undertaking, so I am going to have to pare down some of the information that I want to include in the film. May have to shorten the length of the film as well. We shall see. But I am hopeful that I shall get this done. Some questions that I hope to soon answer through viewing online tutorials of how to use Final Cut are: How to lay a voiceover track down over edited images, how to make a title car and credits, how to cross-fade between images, and how to make all of the audio levels from various clips meld together seamlessly. Lots of work, but I like the challenge. If only I didn’t have so many assignments to do then I could spend more time on this...
